SAC Arts presents…

a monthly showcase

David Aeppli

The “portraits” in this exhibition come from a lifelong love of images. These images come from everyday experiences and include artwork, photography, advertising and books. With each piece I have attempted to create an artwork that first grabs your attention, and second creates a reaction to the artwork, whether it invokes an emotion or just makes you smile.

A large part of this process is the harvesting of imagery that is my raw materials. I use the word harvest on purpose because I look for elements that have a quality of maturity and are aesthetically appealing in their own right. I then comb through my treasures to come up with the disparate elements that will come together to form a cohesive portrait and then finally assembling them so that they speak to me.

I have always dabbled in making art. It began with photography in the 70’s, on to small furniture pieces, a couple of earthworks, sculptures, pedestals and display cases and the insanity of an original piece of art on every business card I ever handed out. This history coupled with being an art installer for 35 years have led me to the desire to create seemingly simple artwork that makes you look and hopefully notice the underlying complexity. Or smile.
